Hello!
A little about me…
I am an Associate Professor (teaching) at the USC Sol Price School of Public Policy where I design, develop, and teach courses on public/nonprofit leadership and management, philanthropy, stakeholder engagement, and strategic planning. I have a Ph.D. in Public Administration from Arizona State University.
I grew up outside of Nashville, Tennessee and currently reside in Arizona with my husband, two children, two dogs, and a hermit crab. In my non-work life, I enjoy hiking, reading, yoga, forced-family fun time, and planning/taking epic road trips.
Did you know?
Prior to academia, I spent several years working in the nonprofit sector and even spent some time in Los Angeles pursuing a short-lived film and comedy career. Fortunately, I’ve found that my unique background in public speaking, stand-up, and improvisational comedy serve me well online and in the classroom!
My Professional Roles
Educator
I love teaching and learning (and learning about teaching) and I spend a good part of my time identifying, creating, and experimenting with new tools, strategies, approaches, and techniques to make my classes more responsive, inclusive, relevant, and engaging.
I have extensive experience in curriculum development and instructional design, for both in-person and online learning environments.
Researcher
I am a co-author of the text Managing Human Behavior in Public and Nonprofit Organizations and my research focuses on identifying innovative approaches to leadership development, stakeholder engagement, online education, and organizational capacity building.
My work has been published in Administration & Society, Administrative Theory and Praxis, the Journal of Public Affairs Education, and in the book Government Is Us, 2.0.
Consultant & Facilitator
I enjoy consulting and working with individuals, organizations, and communities looking to strengthen their capacities in leadership and governance, strategic planning, participatory decision-making, mindfulness, and engagement.
I have completed the Planning for Participation certificate through the International Association for Public Participation (IAP2) and the Technology of Participation Methods training through the Institute for Cultural Affairs.
